Manchester Scleral Buckling Course

Overview

This simulated Scleral Buckling Course is aimed at Senior Trainees and Fellows, in Ireland, with an interest in VR surgery. It will provide practical training on different techniques of scleral buckling, plus subretinal fluid drainage, gas injection and case discussions.

Format:

Didactic short talks and practical workshops with model (Philips) eyes.

Stations:

Indirect ophthalmascopy/scleral indentation/finding & marking retinal breaks, types & techniques of scleral buckling and suturing, circumferential and encircling buckling, radial buckling, drainage of subretinal fluid & pneumatic retinopexy.

Faculty:

Faculty will include experienced consultant scleral buckling surgeons from Ireland and the UK.

Scleral Buckling chapters ‘Vitreoretinal Surgery‘ authored by Mr. Paul Sullivan.

Applications for registration are reviewed by the faculty and priority for the 15 available places is given to those with the most appropriate experience for the course (i.e. the buckling course is not appropriate for junior trainees).

We will write to the most eligible applicants and ask them to register and pay. The cost is £275 per person and includes catering and all course kit.

Dublin Scleral Buckling Course

Glasgow Scleral Buckling Course

BEAVRS run simulated surgery courses to help trainees
and fellows to develop their vitreoretinal surgical skills.

Simulated Scleral Buckling Courses (May and November) are aimed at senior trainees (ST6/7) and fellows already specialised in VR surgery, providing practical training on different techniques of scleral buckling, plus subretinal fluid drainage, gas injection and case discussions.

There are 12 available places. Cost £275.00pp

Applications for registration are reviewed by the faculty and priority for the 12 available places is given to those with the most appropriate experience for the course (i.e. the buckling course is not appropriate for junior trainees).

We will write to the most eligible applicants and ask them to register and pay. The cost is £275 per person and includes catering and all course kit.

Introductory Posterior Vitrectomy Course

Location: Hull Institute of Learning and Simulation (HILS)

Date: Tuesday 14th January 2025

Aim: This course is aimed at ST4/5 Trainees who have an interest in subspecialising in
Vitreoretinal Surgery and will provide practical hands-on training in simple posterior
vitrectomy techniques, understanding the vitrectomy machine, viewing systems, EyeSi,
vitreous biopsy, indirect ophthalmoscopy and indirect laser. As usual on BEAVRS simulated
surgery courses there will be excellent delegate:trainer ratios.

Location: HILS, Clinical Skills Building, Hull Royal Infirmary, Fountain Street, Hull HU3 2JZ.
