Glasgow VR fellowship

The Glasgow VR fellowship will shortly be advertised on BMJ Jobs.

The fellowship begins in August, and is a post-CCT training post. It is an ideal first VR fellowship, suitable for someone who is an accomplished cataract surgeon, but with relatively little experience of retinal surgery. Our two most recent fellows have gone on to second fellowships at Moorfields Eye Hospital. All our fellows from the last ten years have obtained VR consultant posts at teaching hospitals in the UK or their home country.

The post includes four operating sessions per week, which are closely supervised by one of the five VR consultants, and four specialist VR clinics. In addition to the clinical work, the fellow will take on some of the management of the VR service, and will have the opportunity to be involved in our research programme.

All our fellows have enjoyed their time in Glasgow – it is a friendly and supportive department, and the Scottish NHS has not been compelled to adopt the new contract for trainees.

If you know any trainees who are keen to pursue a career in VR surgery, and are coming up for their CCT, please encourage them to apply.
